Legacy Recording Studios
For artists & musicians

Find the room your record deserves

Not a business directory with studios in it — a directory built only for studios. Filter by the things that actually decide where you record, see the session price before you ask, and hire the producer or engineer while you are there. Free for artists, permanently.

The problem

Every studio website says the same six things.

Warm room. Vintage gear. Grammy-nominated engineer. Rates on request. You end up sending five near-identical emails and waiting three days to learn that two of them are out of budget and one closed last year.

The questions that decide it — is the live room big enough, is it verified, does it take bookings, is it open when you actually record, what does a ten-hour Saturday cost — are the ones a homepage never answers. Legacy answers them before you send anything.

How it works

Four steps from searching to sitting behind the glass

  1. 1Filter to what you needCity, room type, amenities, verified, bookable, open at 2am — whatever decides it.
  2. 2Shortlist as you goSave studios from the card or the listing. Your list follows your account.
  3. 3See the price, then askOn bookable studios the itemised quote is on the page before you send a request.
  4. 4Record, then reviewLeave a moderated review afterwards. Owners can reply, but they cannot delete it.

Questions artists ask first

Is Legacy free for artists?
Yes. Searching the directory, filtering it, saving studios, reading and writing reviews, messaging studios, sending enquiries and booking sessions are all free, with no card and no trial. Pro exists for artists using their profile as a shopfront — it raises how much music you can host and adds attachments and search in messages.
Does it cost more to book a studio through Legacy?
No. Legacy does not process payments and adds nothing to a studio's rate. The quote you see on a listing is the studio's own pricing doing the arithmetic — there is no booking fee on either side.
How many studios are on Legacy?
5,478 published studios across 1,025 cities and 50 states, and the directory grows as owners claim and add listings.
Can I tell which studios are legitimate?
Verified studios have submitted identity or business documentation that an administrator reviewed against the listing. You can filter the finder so it only shows those. Reviews help too — owners can reply to them but cannot delete them.
Can I find engineers and producers, not just rooms?
Yes. Producers and engineers have their own public profiles with credits, specialisms and reviews, and a hire form that sends your brief straight to them.
Do I need an account to search?
No, browsing is open to everyone. An account is what lets you save studios, message owners, book sessions and leave reviews — and it costs nothing.

Still deciding? Every feature above has its own page with the detail behind it.
